Deep Canyon Tennis Club
Quorum Article - January 2000
Deep Canyon Tennis
Club is a walled and gate-guarded community located high up above El Paseo on
the east side of Highway 74 in South Palm Desert. The property enjoys
spectacular valley views. The development was built out between 1974 and 1979
and is made up of 350 two and three bedroom condominium units. The units range
in size from 1,100 to 1,300 square feet and in 1999 resale prices ranged from
$80,000 to 120,000.
The community is served by 12 swimming pools, 4 spas and 13 tennis courts, 6
of which are lighted. There is a large clubhouse with entertainment facilities,
an exercise room and putting green. The exercise room is open 24 hours per day.
Central to Deep Canyon Tennis Club’s community activities is its very
active tennis program, which boasts a full time tennis instructor. The Tennis
Director and instructor is USPTA tennis pro Larry Hunter. DCTC teams compete in
Desert inter-club leagues and tournaments. There are many active tennis players
in the community at all levels, with more than 100 players on the courts daily
during the season. There is a weekly schedule of clinics, round robins, men’s
and ladies’ days, and leagues. In addition the program puts on special events
such as club championships and professional exhibition matches. Larry considers
the tennis facility to be one of the busiest in the desert.
In addition to an active tennis program, homeowners enjoy a vigorous social
program including bridge, bocce ball, water exercise and more. There are
numerous clubs, including movie reviews and biking. Seasonal renters come back
year after year because they enjoy the active social life and are made to feel a
welcome part of the community. Says on-site association manager, Karen Hartfield,
“This is the happiest, healthiest most active group of homeowners I have
encountered in 17 years of management in the Desert.”
Karen is an Association Manager with The Monarch Group of affiliated
companies, which offers an array of management, maintenance, real estate and
security services to homeowner associations in Southern California. The Monarch
Group has been responsible for the management of Deep Canyon Tennis Club’s
homeowner association for some 5 years. Castle Realty, the real estate affiliate
of the Monarch Group, has an on-site office at Deep Canyon Tennis Club.
Homeowners and renters find this arrangement most convenient. Donna Amick,
Broker, heads up this office.
As well as enjoying a busy social life, Deep Canyon Tennis Club homeowners
are also thoroughly involved in the management of their association. Karen and
her team work with an active 5-member board of directors and 6 committees. Diane
Adams, assistant manager, supports Karen in office administration. In-house
staff also includes landscape supervisor Bobby Dominguez and his 15-person crew,
who are responsible for the lush, mature and immaculately maintained grounds.
Guardsmark provides round-the-clock security. HOA dues are a low $285 per month.
